United Fund of Lawrence County
Lawrence County United Fund has announced it will fund 12 local organizations during the 2015-16 fiscal year. During a late Thursday afternoon meeting, United Fund officials said the following groups will receive financial assistance: Bridgeport ERBA Head Start, Care Call, Friends of the Library, Lawrence County Historical Society, Lawrenceville Boy Scouts/Cub Scouts 245, Lawrence County Camp Girls, Lawrence County Humane Society, Sign of the Kingdom East, White House Christian Church Food Pantry, Lawrence County Senior Citizens, Lawrenceville Teen Center and URChoice. Representatives from the groups to be funded met to discuss upcoming fundraisers. Organizers noted that all money raised stays in Lawrence County. All contributions can be sent to United Fund, P.O. Box 23, Lawrenceville, IL 62439. Selected groups will be participating in several fundraisers over the coming months.

Free GED Test Prep classes at WVC
MOUNT CARMEL - Wabash Valley College announces the upcoming free GED Test Prep classes which will be offered at Wabash Valley College.

The classes will be Oct. 13 - Dec. 10, and will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. - noon or from 5 - 9 p.m. All classes will be held in the computer lab in the Main Hall, room 202.

Lawrence County hazard mitigation committee meeting Oct. 21
LAWRENCEVILLE - The Lawrence County Hazard Mitigation Steering Committee will host a public meeting at 10 a.m. on Oct. 21, at Lawrenceville City Hall.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) requires each unit of government in the United States to have a FEMA-approved multi-hazard mitigation plan. In the pursuance of compliance, Wayne County and Southern Illinois University - Carbondale have worked to identify potential natural hazards and to produce a mitigation plan to address the hazards.

LHS junior Bobe advances from golf regional
MOUNT CARMEL - Lawrenceville High School junior Madison Bobe reached her goal on Wednesday, as she advanced from the Illinois High School Association Class A golf regional at Mount Carmel City Golf Course.

Bobe, the back-to-back Little Illini Conference individual champion, shot a 29-over-par score of 101 to become one of 10 individuals to advance who were not on an advancing team. The sectional is scheduled for Monday at Crab Orchard Golf Course in Carterville.
