Chamber of Commerce open house
The Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce hosted an open house Thursday evening at its recently-opened office at 813 12th St. in Lawrenceville, across from Lawrence Public Library. A ribbon-cutting was held with Chamber President Tom Robinson shown cutting the ribbon.

Coalition moving forward with four-lane project
CLAY CITY - During a recent meeting of the U.S. Route 50 Four-Lane Coalition, members prioritized a list of concerns and will focus on these items when communicating with IDOT and members of the Illinois General Assembly. 

The goal of the coalition is a 119 mile rural expressway along the current U.S. Route 50.

The four-lane will involve two Illinois Transportation District offices. Coaltion members reported that the main priorities for IDOT District 8 involve U.S. 50's bottleneck areas in Lebanon, Salem, and Carlyle.  For IDOT District 7, the Coalition will focus on recruiting funding towards the Phase 2 studies and construction between Lawrenceville and Olney.

ISP: 211 concealed carry applications from Lawrence County
SPRINGFIELD - On July 9, 2013, the Firearm Concealed Carry Act became state law.

The law requires residents to obtain an Illinois Concealed Carry License to legally carry a concealed firearm in the state.

After lawmakers determined the rules and regulations and procedures that would be involved in the process, about 23,000 Illinois residents applied for concealed carry permits in 2013.  State officials reported that 54 of those applications came from Lawrence County while 61 came from Crawford County, 58 from Richland and 52 from Wabash.

Last year, was the first full year for residents to apply for a concealed carry license. Illinois State Police, who oversee the process, recently released 2014 concealed cary statistics through its Firearm Services Bureau.
