| Library program |  | | John Ham, of Animal Tales, a Mayfield, Ky., group providing education and entertainment through the use of unusual animals, provided the program during Thursday’s Lawrence Public Library reading program. Ham is shown with a 95-pound African tortoise. Program officials said 161 children and 87 adults attended the program in the library auditorium. In addition, Vicki Cretors, of the Frontier Community College literacy program presented a special message and presented each child with a book. Cretors was seeking volunteers as well as students for the program. Next week the library program will begin at 10 a.m. at the library with the doors opening at 9:30 a.m. The program will be “Daniel the Magician.” This year’s theme for the program is “Have Book Will Travel.” |

Arson suspected in animal shelter fire
 | PINKSTAFF - The Illinois Fire Marshal's office and the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department are investigating a Tuesday morning fire which gutted the county's animal shelter.
Authorities suspect arson, believing the fire was intentional because all of the animals had been freed from their cages before firefighters arrived on the scene.
Firefighters responded to the call about 5:30 a.m. with four units of the Lawrence-Allison Fire Protection District and the Bridgeport Fire Protection district responding. Wednesday, June 12, 2013 |

| | Residents asked to call Crimestoppers with information | PINKSTAFF - The Lawrence County Sheriff's Department and Lawrence County Board, through Crimestoppers, are appealing to the public for any information regarding the recent arson of the Lawrence County Animal Shelter.
Sheriff Russell Adams is asking anyone with information that might help to call the Lawrence County Crimestoppers hotline at 1-888-699-2677. Any and all calls will remain anonymous.
