Miss Lawrence County festivities were underway this weekend at the fairgrounds. Lawrence County 4-H general projects show results
SUMNER - Lawrence County 4-H members competed Thursday in the General Projects show at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds to kick off fair week.

Youth competed in photography, clothing, visual arts, animal science and much more. The University of Illinois Extension office would like to congratulate all the winners from our show.

Real estate tax bills have been mailed
LAWRENCEVILLE - Lawrence County Treasurer Barbie Morey has announced that the "2014 payable 2015 real estate tax bills" were mailed July 17.

"You should be receiving them in the mail this week or shortly after," Morey said. "Please be aware the tax bills will be on pink paper this year enclosed in an envelope with a notation on the envelope, ATTN: REAL ESTATE TAX BILL.

Bills may be paid at the Lawrence County Treasurer's office located in the Courthouse Annex at 1106 Jefferson Street in Lawrenceville, at most banks in the county, or by mail with the statements.

There is also a drop box located on the front of the Courthouse Annex building.

For questions or concerns, taxpayers can call the treasurer's office at 943-2016 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

LTC holding volleyball tryouts 
ROBINSON - Area women interested in playing volleyball at Lincoln Trail College will have a chance to tryout for the team.

  College officials said head coach Kristin Selph will offer open tryouts for the team from 1-3 p.m. Aug. 22 at the Lincoln Trail College Sports Center.

The tryouts are open to students that will be freshmen or sophomores at Lincoln Trail College or who would like to attend Lincoln Trail College.

  "This is a great opportunity for anyone that wants to play college volleyball," said Selph. "I'm looking for players that are willing to put in the work to help grow the Lady Statesmen. We also want players that are going to be strong students and leaders on and off the court."
