Lawrence County Fair set to begin
The 2013 Junior Miss Lawrence County Lauren Tollett (left) and Miss Lawrence County McKenzi McClain will be on hand to this year’s Lawrence County Junior and 4-H Fair. The 4-H portion of the fair begins tonight with cake judging. The Junior and 4-H fair will be in full swing beginning Saturday and will run through Aug. 1. The two queens will help with Sunday's pageant as well as other activities. As in the past, the fair will feature a free gate and free parking. Grandstand admissioin is $10 for adults and $5 for children. Children five and under are admitted free. Pit passes are $20 for all ages.

Miss Lawrence County pageant Sunday
SUMNER - Sunday night there will be 13 young women vying for the 2014 Miss and Junior Miss Lawrence County titles. The pageant begins at 7 p.m. in the main building at the fairgrounds.

Last year's Miss Lawrence County was McKenzi McClain. The 20-year-old is a junior at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, where is studying speech communications.

Chamber's Celebrity Chef a success
WESTPORT - The fourth annual Celebrity Chef was hosted Saturday by the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce at Lasata Wines near Westport, and deemed a success.

This year's chefs were Ed Wright, sponsored by Land Title & Abstract; Andy and Steve Blevins, along with son Austin, with Up In Smoke BBQ sponsored by the Lawrence County Senior Citizens Center and Little D Drilling; Brian Kramer with Tabco Business Forms; Bob Tracy with Tracy Electric; Dan Cunningham with Westport Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram; Tom Robinson with State Farm Insurance; and Matthew T. Ambrose with Combined Insurance.
