Kid's Theatre Week
The Lawrence County Arts Council held its Kidís Theatre Week performance on Friday night at the Lawrenceville High School auditorium. The kids presented two dance numbers and five skits to a large crowd of friends and family. Shown above, the kids are dancing the opening number, ďTry Everything.Ē Kidís Theatre Week is held annually and is open to children in grades three through nine.

IDPH offers tips to beat the heat
SPRINGFIELD - With high temperatures and higher humidity expected over the next several days, Illinois Department of Public Health Director Nirav D. Shah, M.D., J.D. is urging Illinoisans to take preventive actions to avoid heat-related illness like heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

"High heat and humidity can lead to serious health problems. It's important for people to recognize the signs of heat-related illness and take action to prevent becoming sick," said Director Shah. "To help your body cope with high temperatures, take steps to stay cool, increase your fluid intake, decrease your activities and wear appropriate clothing."

Blood drive set for July 29
BRIDGEPORT - The Red Hill Students Against Destructive Decisions organization is kicking off the next Red Cross blood drive cycle with a summer blood drive on July 28.

The event is set for 2-7 p.m. at the New Hope Christian Church. 

Appointments can be scheduled via email at grobbins@cusd10.org.  Walk-ins are also welcome.

Red Cross officials said blood supplies are at critically low levels and donors are desperately needed.

High school golf meeting set for Aug. 2
LAWRENCEVILLE - Lawrence County golf coach Dave Berry has announced that a meeting for anyone planning to play high school golf in the fall has been scheduled for Aug. 2.

The meeting will begin at 2 p.m. in Room 203 at Lawrenceville High School.
