County school boards scheduled to meet this week
LAWRENCEVILLE - Both school districts within the county have planned board meetings for this week with the Community Unit School District No. 20 meeting planned for Wednesday and the Red Hill Community Unit School District No. 10 meeting set for Thursday.

The Unit 20 board will meet at 7 p.m. in the community room at Parkside Elementary School in Lawrenceville where several items are on the agenda for board approval. The board will also hear administrative reports from principals at all schools including Julie Hayes at Parkside; Jeremy Brush at Parkview Jr. High; and Paul Higginbotham at Lawrenceville High School; and a superintendent report from Doug Daugherty. The 2018-2019 student board is also expected to be in attendance for the last time in the current school year. Student board members are: juniors, Elsie Whewell and Jade Seitzinger; and seniors, Nolan Tewell and McKegan Swanson.

A consideration and approval is being considered for the annual membership and dues to the Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB). The 2019-2020 school calendar is also expected to be approved. A work bid will be reviewed by board members for the repair of the driveway at Parkside Elementary.

Following up from the previous meeting in April, Daugherty will have bus and van bids available for review. The consideration and approval to purchase an activity bus is also on the agenda. A consolidated district plan will be discussed, lunch prices for the 2019-2020 school year will be set as well as wages for non-certified personnel. An amended budget will be presented to the board for approval, however, a budget hearing will need to be set prior to the approval.

There are several local organizations and businesses seeking fee waivers for use of the Unit 20 school grounds. The Red Cross and the Lawrence County Health Department have requested to use the Lawrenceville High School gymnasium on July 3. The City of Lawrenceville has requested to use the school grounds for its annual firework display on July 4. The Billett United Methodist Church has requested use of the LHS cafeteria on June 7. All requests will be considered and approved and/or denied, during the meeting.

The Unit 20 board is expected to go into executive session after the public meeting to discuss personnel matters such as resignations, employment, dismissal of personnel and the posting of open positions within the district.

The Unit 10 board will meet at 6 p.m. in executive session in the library at Red Hill Jr./Sr. High School in Bridgeport where the board will discuss leaves of absences, resignations, employment, temporary summer workers and an open board position. The public portion of the meeting will begin at 7 p.m.

The public meeting will include communication from citizens, staff, principals, board members and administration. An approval of the fiscal year 2019 tentative amended budget will be sought after a budget hearing has been set. Summer work hours for 12 and 11 month positions are also expected to be approved. Open positions within the district will be discussed and posted as available.

A consideration and approval is being considered for the annual dues to the IASB. An approval of the IESA wrestling co-op agreement is also on the table for approval. The 2019-2020 student handbook will be reviewed. The HVAC system repair at Bridgeport Grade School will also be discussed during the meeting.

Board of Education meetings will continue at both schools throughout the summer months. The public is invited to attend the open portion of the meeting.
