Unit 20 superintendent search moves forward; six finalists selected
LAWRENCEVILLE - The search for a new superintendent of schools for Community Unit School District 20 moved forward Monday evening during a special school board meeting.

Following a lengthy executive session, which included a review of superintendent candidates by an Illinois Association of School Boards job executive search representative, Tom Leahy, the board selected six finalists.

The six finalists were chosen from a field of 21 applicants. School officials said each will be interviewed in executive sessions on April 3 and 4. A second round of interviews is also expected. A new superintendent is expected to be chosen soon after that.

Names of the applicants were not released.

The search began following the February resignation of Superintendent Charlie Stegall. The board officially accepted Stegall's resignation on Feb. 20.

Stegall who has held the district's top spot for five years and Lawrenceville High School principal for four years prior to that, accepted the superintendent's job in the Bethalto school district, a larger district near Alton.

Stegall's last day will be June 30.
