Switch to lower electric rates set to begin
MOUNT VERNON - Ameren IL electric utility customers in Lawrenceville, as well as Mt. Vernon, Dix, Belle Rive, Bluford, Bonnie, Ina, Waltonville, Woodlawn, Washington County, Nashville, Okawville, Ashley, New Minden, Oakdale, Sandoval, Junction City, Central City, Patoka, Iuka, Odin, Kinmundy, Grayville, Crossville, Dahlgren, Watson, St. Elmo and Brownstown will begin receiving notice from Ameren that they are being switched from Ameren IL to Homefield Energy for their electric supply.

According to Jeff Haarmann, managing partner of Affordable Gas and Electric, the letter from Ameren states "your account is being switched to a new electric supplier."

Haarman noted that a sample of this letter was previously included as part of the Homefield Energy Opt-Out mail notification, which began the process of notifying residents of the city/county/village wide rate negotiated on their behalf.

"This Utility Switch letter sometimes confuses people because they think they are being switched from Ameren without their consent" said Haarmann.  "In this case, the letter is simply the formal notification from Ameren that Homefield Energy will now begin supplying the electricity at the new municipal rates.  Customers of Ameren will remain a customer with Ameren for the delivery of their electricity, billing, etc."

The notification from Ameren is the final step in issuing the new lower electricity rates.  In April of this year, the electorate approved a referendum allowing the city/county/village to negotiate lower electricity rates for the residents of the community.  A guaranteed fixed rate of .04194/kwh, representing savings of over 20 percent off last year's rates, was secured through June, 2015.

Ameren customers who wish to receive the lower negotiated rate from Homefield Energy are advised that they do not have to do anything with this notification from Ameren IL.  Questions regarding this notification can be directed to Homefield Energy at 866-694-1262.
