Halbrook will not seek re-election in 2014
MATTOON - State Rep. Brad Halbrook has announced that he will not seek re-election in 2014.

Halbrook serves the 110th District, which includes parts of Lawrence County, including Lawrenceville. The district also includes all or parts of Clark, Coles, Crawford, Cumberland and Edgar counties.

Having decided that family responsibilities and his farm fencing business must take priority over his elected office, Halbrook, a Coles County residents, said he will serve out the remainder of his two-year term.

"I made the decision early so that the Republican Party can have a robust, competitive state representative primary," said Halbrook. "Illinois needs decisive leaders. If you have a strong vision, then the people of Illinois are counting on you."

Halbrook defeated Kevin L. Garner in a primary and ran unopposed in the Nov. 6 election.

He said his decision not to seek re-election was framed in mid-spring when his father experienced a health emergency. On a long-term basis, Halbrook said he realized that he needed to remain geographically close by his family.

"It's now best for my family that we remain on our family farm. My father's health emergency helped me to reconsider my priorities," Halbrook explained. "I've met many talented, principled men and women in the district that can go to Springfield and fight for our values. I encourage citizens to take advantage of this opportunity."

As a lawmaker, Halbrook has championed the issues of concealed carry, pro-life legislation, pension reform, aggressive financial transparency, and a three-year property tax freeze.

Halbrook said he fully intends to complete his term as state representative, and will continue to focus on providing quality constituent service and being a strong voice for east central Illinois.
