Girl's Night Out fund-raiser to benefit juvenile diabetes research
LAWRENCEVILLE - A Girl's Night Out fund-raiser will be held Saturday to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Organizers said a quarter auction will be held at he Lawrenceville Moose Lodge with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. and the auction beginning at 7 p.m.

Each person who enters the doors will receive a bidders paddle at no cost.

The bid for the item will be one, two, three or four quarters and the items up for bid will be from vendors who have brought in merchandise, local businesses and friends who have donated items.

For those unable to attend the event a bidders paddle may be purchased for $25. The all inclusive paddle will allow you to bid on all the items in the auction.

The events proceeds will go toward the JDRF to help bring awareness, research and to help find a cure to people affected by Type One diabetes.

The fund-raiser coordinator, Tracy Novsek, a Lawrenceville native and her family will attend the event to helps raise money for JDRF.

Her daughter Sydney was diagnosed with Type One diabetes since the age of 12 and the family has raised more than $80,000 since then by hosting walks at Santa Claus Land, SIU campus and auctions.

Sydney attends SIU in Carbondale and plans on becoming a nurse. She struggles with diabetes everyday of her life by checking her blood sugar six-10 times a day and taking five to six shots of insulin a day. It is a process she will have to do everyday for the rest of her life.

Anyone interested in attending the auction should bring a finger food for the table and some rolls of quarters to bid on items with. Drinks will be available to purchase at the Moose.

Each table will fit around seven to eight people. To reserve a table or if you are a vendor who would like to donate to the auction, please call Tracy at 618-335-9196 or Terry Cochran at 943-6969. The event will only handle cash and checks.

The next walk for JDRF will be held on Oct. 26 at 11 a.m. on the SIU campus.

Anyone wanting to donate to JDRF can send checks to Joe and Tracy Novsek, 17555 Timber Ridge Lane, Carlyle, Il 62231, the checks will be forwarded to JDRF, or visit the website at www.Walk.jdrf.org. and all donation are tax deductible.
