Public invited to Martin Luther King Jr. banquet Jan. 23 at VU
VINCENNES - Vincennes University will celebrate and honor the life and achievements of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., at a banquet on Jan. 23, 6 p.m. (EST), at Green Activities Center.  

Tickets are available at VU's Old Post Bookstore in the Beckes Student Union.  VU students and employees may obtain one free ticket by going to the Student Center in the Student Union. Tickets are $8 for all others.

The evening will feature a performance by the VU Essence of Worship Gospel Choir.

The keynote address will be presented by Ken Barlow, vice president for constituent relations for Cathedral High School in Indianapolis.  Barlow serves as the principal operating manager for alumni and community relations, provides support of annual giving programs, and facilitates volunteer engagement.  He is also the first African-American to serve on the Executive Team which helps ensure focus and direction for Cathedral's mission.

The 1982 Cathedral graduate earned his Bachelor of Arts in 1986 in Government and International Relations at the University of Notre Dame. While there, he was the two-time basketball team MVP and "Student Athlete of the Year."  

After college, Barlow was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round of the 1986 NBA Draft.  Subsequently, he played professional basketball in Italy, Greece, and Israel, winning 12 championships in 16 years.

He is also an ordained minister and has volunteered as a mentor and community activist for various programs. Barlow lives in Fishers with his wife Dawn. They have three adult sons, Delenian, Keenan, and Kelsey.
