LTC winter choral festival features Cantus
ROBINSON - Lincoln Trail College will present Cantus as the guest artist for its 2014 Winter Festival on Feb. 7.

Acclaimed as the "premier men's vocal ensemble in the United States," Cantus is known around the world for its trademark warmth and blend and its engaging performances of music ranging from the Renaissance to the 21st century.

Working without a conductor, the members of Cantus rehearse and perform as chamber musicians, each contributing to the entirety of the artistic process. The Washington Post hails the ensemble's sound as having both "exalting finesse" and "expressive power" and refers to their music-making as "spontaneous grace."

Cantus performs more than 60 concerts each year both in national and international touring, as well as in its home of Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minn, and has released 15 albums on its own self-titled label.

Each year, the artists of Cantus conduct workshops and master classes. Free participation in the festival is open to students in junior high or high school. Students will participate in an afternoon of music-making, culminating in a public performance of Franz Biebl's "Ave Maria" on stage at 7 p.m. with Cantus.

Participants age 14 and older may receive 0.5 credit hours of college credit for the educational presentations. To register for the festival, visit  or contact the Performing Arts Office. Registration forms will also be available on site.

The festival begins at 1 p.m., with the public concert scheduled for 7 p.m. in the theater. Reserved tickets are $10 and are available at the door or by calling the Performing Arts Office.

For more information, contact the Performing Arts Office at 618-544-8657, Ext. 1433 or email Jeshua Franklin, director of music, at
