Southern Illinois Spring Classic to support Kids Shopping Day
LAWRENCEVILLE - The Southern Illinois Spring Classic is much more than a pancake breakfast followed by a series of races, its a chance to support an organziation dedicated to helping the children of Lawrence County.

This year's Spring Classic is set for March 29 and will include a half marathon, 5K race and a kids half marathon. The event will start and finish in the Parkside Elementary School area.

As has been the case in past years, proceeds from the Southern Illinois Spring Classic will go to help support Kids Shopping Day of Lawrence County.

Each year, in August, children county-wide are invited to a one-day event in which students receive everything they need to start the school year - clothes, shoes, toiletries, school supplies, backpacks and more. In 2013, 627 Lawrence County participated.

There are two ways to register to participate in the runs, which will go on, rain or shine. Runners can register online by logging on to, or runners can download an entry form and return it to: Southern Illinois Spring Classic, P.O. Box 134, Lawrenceville, IL 62439.

Runners can enter early and save money on the registration fee.

For the half marathon, registration through March 1 is $50. From March 2-29, the registration fee is $60. The fee includes race entry, Dri-Fit T-shirt and medal.

For the 5K run, early registration fee through March 1 is $25. After March 1 the fee is $35. This includes race entry and the Dri-Fit T-shirt.

Registration for the kids half marathon is $10 and includes race entry, a T-shirt and medal. Entry must be received by March 15 to guarantee a shirt.

For more registration information, call Casey Jones at 812-890-5043 or Birgit Volk at 618-936-2396, or email:
