LAWRENCEVILLE - Lawrence County Sheriff Russell Adams will award two $500 scholarships through the Illinois Sheriff's Association.

Last week the sheriff's association announced that it will award more than $53,000 in scholarships throughout the state, for students who wish to pursue higher education in the 2014-2015 academic year. The scholarships are to be applied to tuition, books and fees only.

Applicants must be Illinois residents. Scholarships must be utilized in the state of Illinois and the recipients must be full-time students.

Applications are available at the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department. They are also available on the Internet at www.ilsheriff.org.

Students are required to complete the application, answer the essay question and return all documentation to the sheriff's office in their permanent county of residents by March 15.

For more information, contact the sheriff's department, the Illinois Sheriff's Association, your high school advising center or college financial aid office.
