Memorial tourney to help raise funds, awareness for brain tumor research
BRIDGEPORT - The Red Hill Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter will host its annual four-on-four basketball tournament on May 10 at Red Hill High School.

The tournament is a memorial to former Red Hill student Melissa Fiscus, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor and died in 2009.

"There were few things (Melissa) loved more than her faith and basketball," organizer Amy Ryan said. "So in her memory we are doing all we can to help find a cure for this terrible disease. Our goal for this event is to raise funds and awareness for brain tumor research."

Ryan noted that 100 percent of the money raised from the tournament will go directly to brain cancer research.

The tournament will begin at 8 a.m. and is scheduled to conclude at 9 p.m. Both gyms at Red Hill High School will be used for the tournament. The games are 20 minutes in length, with a continuous clock. Since only half of the gym floor is used for a game, four games will be going on at the same time.

"We're inviting teams from all over the area to come and participate," Ryan said.

Age groups include 5th-8th grade, high school, adult men's and adult women's. The deadline to enter is April 4.

The entry fee is $15 per person, and teams are allowed up to six players.

Food and drinks will be for sale, as will T-shirts. A silent auction is planned. Admission to the tournament is a donation.

Entry forms are available in the offices at RHHS and Sumner Attendance Center.

For more information contact Ryan at 618-553-6447 or at aryan@cusd10.org.
