Basketball fans asked to support 'fish and loaves' with food donation
BRIDGEPORT - While there are free lunch programs in both Lawrence County school Districts - Unit 10 and Unit 20 - officials have determined that more than 100 elementary children go hungry on weekends.

To include junior high school and high school students from both districts would put that number well above 200.

In an effort to see that no child has to be hungry, a Lawrence County group formed late last year to create a weekend food distribution program.

Through this program, which is called "Fish and Loaves," and "Friday Backpack Program," children who are recommended by their school teachers will be sent home with a bag of food for the weekend so they do not have to worry about going hungry until they return to school.

Lawrence Countians have a reputation of coming to the aid of their friends and neighbors and supporting programs that help others.

On Tuesday, basketball fans are being asked to bring a food item to the Lawrenceville-Red Hill basketball game. This year's Pack the Place game, sponsored by Peoples State Bank who will pick up the admission fees for all fans, will be at Bridgeport.
