| Billett area hit hardest by Thursday rain |
LAWRENCEVILLE - As if local residents haven't had enough rain this spring, Thursday Lawrence County was hit with varied amounts ranging from and inch to almost three inches.

| Red Hill Unit 10 school board approves technology upgrade |
BRIDGEPORT - With state-mandated computerized testing looming in the near future, the Red Hill Unit 10 school board took action to begin major technology upgrades.
At Thursday's monthly meeting, technology was a big issue with Superintendent Matt Seaton explaining the new state testing series for students from third grade through 11th grade.

| Focus now on niece charged in Westall slaying |
LAWRENCEVILLE - With the trial for Tyler R. McQueen, one of two people charged in the May 2012 slaying of Robert V. Westall complete, the focus is now on Helen Marie Westall.
McQueen was recently found guilty in Lawrence County Circuit Court of first degree murder.
More than a year ago, when McQueen was arrested, Helen Westall, 48, was also arrested and charged with solicitation of murder and solicitation of murder for hire. She allegedly offered McQueen $10,000 and a 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass in exchange for killing her uncle, 78-year-old Robert Westall. Tuesday, May 14, 2013 |

| New business hours announced for Lawrenceville City Hall |
LAWRENCEVILLE - Lawrenceville City Hall will have new hours of operation beginning June 3.
According to information provided by Mayor Don Wagner's office, new business hours for city hall, located at 700 East State St., will be 8 a.m. until 11:30 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. until 5 p.m. with city hall being closed for lunch between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2013 |

| LHS to host Fine Arts Night;
Parkview plans spring concert |
The Lawrenceville High School has announced its annual Fine Arts Night which will be held on Wednesday.
Choir solos will begin at 6 p.m. with the band to perform at 6:30 p.m.

| LCAC to host 'Kid's Theatre Week' |
BRIDGEPORT - The Lawrence County Arts Council will again host its annual "Kid's Theatre Week" June 24 through 28th at Red Hill High School.
The event will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on those five days

| Trial ends with first-degree murder verdict

LAWRENCEVILLE - A Lawrence County Circuit Court jury deliberated well into the evening Friday night before finding Tyler R. McQueen guilty of first degree murder in the March 2012 slaying of 78-year-old Robert V. Westall.
The jury, comprising of 10 women and two men, deliberated for about four hours and 10 minutes before reading its verdict to the court at 8:07 p.m. Friday.
McQueen, arrested by Illinois State Police more than 13 months ago, less than a week after committing the crime, appeared completely composed when the jury foreman read the verdict. McQueen also showed no emotion when the jury was polled by presiding judge Robert Hopkins. Monday, May 06, 2013 |

| Embarras nearing flood stage |
As of 7:45 a.m. today, the Embarras River at Lawrenceville was at 31.86 feet, only 1.86 feet above flood stage.
According to the National Weather Service, the river should hit flood stage at 30 feet on Saturday, before going back up to 31.7 feet and then dropping again. The Embarras had crested at 38.94 feet almost a week ago.
The Wabash River at Westport was reported at 22.35 feet at 8 a.m. today, still more than six feet above its flood stage of 16 feet. The Wabash, after cresting above 27.46 feet, is supposed to drop below flood stage on Thursday.

| Local health department
warns of mosquito risks
from recent floodwaters |
LAWRENCEVILLE - The Illinois Department of Public Health reports that large numbers of floodwater mosquitoes appear about two weeks after heavy rains and flooding.
Floodwater mosquitoes are rarely infected with the West Nile virus, a news release from the Lawrence County Health Department reported. Mosquitoes can develop in any standing water that is present for more than five days.
Lawrence County Health Department officials said the agency "continues to diligently work on the control of all types of mosquitoes in the county which includes applying larvicide to standing water to prevent new ones." Friday, May 03, 2013 |

LAWRENCEVILLE - The trial for 21-year-old Tyler R. McQueen began with opening statements today in Lawrence County Circuit Court.
