Red Hill (5-5) at Lawrenceville (0-12)
IHSA's 'Ball of Fame' to appear at LHS
LAWRENCEVILLE - The Lawrenceville-Red Hill rivalry will take a back seat tonight, when the two Lawrence County high school basketball teams square off in the Lawrenceville High School gym.

That's because the Illinois High School Association's "Ball of Fame" - and all the hoopla surrounding it - will take center stage. The "Ball of Fame" is the IHSA's effort to celebrate 100 years of tournament basketball. At each stop, one of the 100 Legends of the IHSA Boys Basketball Tournament is schedule to appear and sign the ball, which will be raffled off.

Lawrenceville is represented by three players on the list of legends - Ron Felling, Jay Shidler and Marty Simmons. Felling is expected to be on hand tonight, to autograph the ball in a special pre-game ceremony.

In addition, the IHSA will have a display booth, playing a highlight video. Felling is scheduled to sign autographs at the booth, and IHSA giveaways will also be available. Raffle tickets for the basketball will be sold there.

Felling will be the 16th Legend to sign the basketball. Among the names already on the basketball are Vergil Fletcher, Shawn Livingtson, Isiah Thomas, Quentin Richardson, Dave Johnson, Jeff Clements, Paul and Phil Judson, Bogie Redmon, Gary Tidwell and Johnny Orr.

The game will feature a pair of teams that recently completed holiday tournament play. The Salukis (5-5) are coming off of a runnerup showing at the Dieterich Holiday Tournament. Lawrenceville (0-12) finished 0-2 in play at the Charleston Holiday Tournament.

The Indians are expected to start a lineup that includes 5-9 seniors Josh Bales (2.7 ppg) and Jordan Kull (11.8 ppg), 5-10 senior Marc Sakowicz (7.8 ppg), 5-11 junior Robert Sakowicz (4.3 ppg) and 6-1 sophomore Nathan Waldroup (8.1 ppg).

Red Hill is expected to go with it's usual lineup of 5-10 junior Chris Wampler (10.8 ppg), 5-10 senior Lenny Diggs (12.7 ppg), 6-1 senior Blake Potts (7.8 ppg), 6-3 junior Bradley Padgett (8.2 ppg) and 6-6 senior Robert Petty (17.1 ppg).

The meeting will be the 81st between the Indians and Salukis, with Lawrenceville holding a 54-26 advantage. The Indians won all three meetings with the Salukis last season, by scores of 60-55, 64-60 in the LIC Tournament championship game and 57-42.

Tonight's junior varsity game will tip off at 6:15 p.m.
