Sluggish Indians fall to Robinson
LAWRENCEVILLE - New Lawrenceville High School volleyball coach Trinity Britton says she's seen her team at its best, especially during recent practices.

Thursday, she saw the Indians at their worst in a 25-14, 25-14 loss to visiting Robinson.

"This match is the worst I've seen them, as a whole," said Britton, after her team fell to 0-2.

The Maroons (3-0) used big scoring runs in both games to pull away to the easy win, LHS held a 10-7 edge in the opening game, and trailed just 13-12 at the midway point. However the Maroons' Jasmine Brooks reeled off eight straight service points to settle the issue.

The second game was never in doubt as Robinson's Kylee Hannahs served the first six points. Robinson built leads of 13-3 and 20-7, before the Indians closed the gap at the end.

LHS was without senior McKenzi Kelly for most of the night. The 6-0 hitter arrived late in the second game, after returning from a doctor's appointment, according to Britton.

Seniors Taylor Houck and Hannah Johnson led the Tribe with three service points apiece. Houck had three aces and Katy Trinkle three.

Trinkle topped the team with four assists, while Houck and Trinkle both had five digs. Rona Taylor, Heidi Litherland and Kourtney Osmon added three digs each.

Osmon led the way at the net with four kills and Johnson added two.

Robinson won the junior varsity game, 25-22, 19-25, 25-12. Amanda Seed had six aces and Hannah Holmes four for LHS (0-2). Twins Hannah and Heather Holmes both had four assists, while Abby Higginbotham contributed a team-high four kills. Seed and Kazia Frederick added two kills each.

LHS will play four times Saturday in a tournament at Casey. The Indians will play Newton at 9 a.m., Hartsburg-Emden at 10 a.m. and Cisne at noon in pool play.
