| 10/5/2012 1:27:00 PM | Email this article Print this article | High school cross country Indian teams run second at Fairfield FAIRFIELD - Both Lawrenceville High School cross country teams ran second in the Fairfield Invitational meet Thursday.
The host Mules, behind the winning performance of Corbin Kakar, nipped the Indians, 40-57, to win the boys meet.
In the girls meet, Newton claimed the top spot over the Indians, 43-57.
Girls meet
A trio of Red Hill High School seniors, Andie Scherer, Katie Liberman and Meredith Spitz, paced the Indians.
Scherer ran third overall in 22:07, while Liberman was sixth in 22:39. In addition, Spitz (13th in 24:11), Hannah Burkhardt (15th in 24:29) and Heather Hill (20th in 26:12) scored for LHS.
The Indians' Chelsea Shoulders finished in 30:13.
Mount Carmel was third in the meet with 72 points, while Fairfield finished with 96 points.
Webber Township's Malery Bergbower was the Individual winner.
Boys meet
The duo of Connor Holmes and Zach Kocher led the Indians to the runnerup finish.
Holmes, a sophomore at Red Hill, was third overall in 18:09. Kocher, a senior at Lawrenceville High School, was right behind in fourth place, with a time of 18:19.
Dylan Volkman (13th in 19:16), Tristan Davis (15th in 19:35) and Harry Loeb (22nd in 20:20) also scored for the Tribe.
Wyatt Whewell (26th in 20:51) and Tyler Tewell (31st in 21:26) also ran for the Indians.
Mount Carmel was third in the six-team meet with 68 points, while Louisville-North Clay (91) and Newton (106) completed the field.
The Indians' Slayton Dorney ran seventh in the open race, with a time of 22:21. Evan Briner placed 14th in 24:57.
The Indians will run Tuesday at Newton in the Little Illini Conference meet.
