Hutsonville outslugs Salukis to open season
BRIDGEPORT - Visiting Hutsonville scored in every inning but one Thursday, on the way to a 19-11 win over Red Hill High School's baseball team in the Salukis' opening game of the season.

"We played like it was the first game of the year," said Red Hill coach Mike Wallace, whose season was originally slated to begin on March 12, but has been delayed by poor weather. "We've only been out on the field a couple of times. But I saw a lot of positive out of the kids tonight."

Hutsonville got to three Red Hill pitchers to score 19 runs on 20 hits. The Salukis made four errors.

Corey Burkhardt, who started and pitched 2 1/3 innings, suffered the loss. He gave up 12 runs, six of which were earned, on 10 hits. He walked three batters and fanned three.

Senior Noah Puntney pitched three innings in relief, allowing six hits and five runs, two of which were earned. Puntney walked a pair of batters and whiffed three.

Trey Aguirre pitched the final 1 2/3 innings and gave up two runs on four hits with two walks and a strikeout.

Puntney highlighted a 12-hit attack for the Salukis with two doubles and a single, while driving in three runs.

Ryan Kolb singled three times for Red Hill while Jacob Wirth singled and doubled and Tristan Zollars singled twice.

"They got some timely hits and took advantage of our walks and errors," said Wallace. "You could tell that we haven't been able to practice on our field very much. As we gain experience we will win ballgames. We have a lot of inexperience in our pitching staff right now."

The Salukis are slated to return to competition Monday with a 4 p.m. game at rival Lawrenceville.
