Illinois District 1 12-year-old All-Stars
Lawrence Co. run comes to end

By

OLNEY - Lawrence County finally ran out of steam Thursday in the District 1 12-year-old All-Star Tournament.

Olney right-hander Dakotah Brown went the distance on the mound as the home team eliminated Lawrence County, 16-4. The game was stopped due to the 10-run rule after five innings.

Lawrence County finished the tournament with a 2-2 record, with two wins over Salem and a pair of losses to the host Olney team.

Thursday's game was closer than the final score might indicate. Lawrence County scored twice in the bottom of the second inning to take a 3-2 lead. It trailed 7-4 after scoring a run in the fourth.

However Olney put things out of reach with the nine-run fifth frame.

Dylan McGuire had two hits for the Lawrence Countians and drove in a pair of runs. Conner O'Dell had a run-scoring hit, while Landen Ray, Keegan Meek and Cade Benson added hits.

Benson started on the mound, pitched 2 1/3 innings, and was charged with the loss. O'Dell, Meek and Blaine Brink also pitched in the loss.

Olney pounded out 12 hits against the four Lawrenceville pitchers and took advantage of 11 walks.

Brown gave up just two earned runs for Olney, on six hits. He fanned nine Lawrence County hitters.

Olney will host the Section 1 tournament next week. It will face Pike County in Tuesday's opening game.
