Struggles continue for county teams at Mt. Carmel
MOUNT CARMEL - Sluggish play has been the norm for Lawrence County's high school golf teams and the trend continued Tuesday at Mount Carmel Municipal Golf Course.

Mount Carmel's host Golden Aces shot an 18-over-par 162 to win the three-team competition. Lawrenceville edged Red Hill, 187-188, to take second.

"We did not play well today," said LHS coach Dave Berry, after his team posted its worst score in three outings this season. "We are struggling with some mental aspects of the game. We will improve."

Jeffrey Baxter and Hoa Bobe both shot 9-over-par 45s to pace the Indians. Jeffery Metz (47) and Austin DeLoriea (50) also scored, while LHS tossed out the scores of Oliver Large (51) and Seth Hatfield (62). Chase Shick (52) and Alfonso Palazzolo (57) played but were not in the LHS lineup.

Jacob Abel led the Salukis with a 9-over-par 45. Tanner Gray and Zach Breault both shot 46s, while Jacob Tabler carded a 54. For the second day in a row, the Salukis were without Morgan Tewell who is sidelined with an elbow injury.

The Golden Aces' Beau Johnson shot a 2-over-par 38 and was the meet medalist. Richard Kolb (39), Nick Deisher (41) and Paul Ruth (44) also scored for Mount Carmel. The Golden Aces did not use the scores of Evan Thread (45) or Blake Stipp (49).

In girls competition, LHS players Madison Bobe and Elizabeth Theriac both shot 59, while Taylor Heath shot a 61 for Red Hill.

The Indians and Salukis will play at home for the first time Tuesday, when they'll host Robinson at Lawrence County Country Club.
