Lawrenceville youngster makes PPK final round
LAWRENCEVILLE - For the second time in three years, Lawrenceville resident Bryce Winningham will take part in the National Football League Punt, Pass and Kick competition prior to an Indianapolis Colts game.

Winningham and four others will compete for the 14-year-old Division Indiana championship prior to the Colts' game vs. the Tennessee Titans on Dec. 1. Participants will check in at Lucas Oil Stadium starting at 7:15 a.m., with the competition to begin at 8:15. Awards will be presented prior to the game.

Winningham won a regional tournament in Vincennes at the end of August. That qualified him for sectional competition in Princeton, Ind., in October, which he also won.

Scores are based on distance and accuracy, on the combined scores for the three events.

Winningham was the winner in the PPK's youth-intermediate division, for players aged 12 to 15. There is also competition for Pee Wee (6-7) and Junior (8-11). All participants will be awarded a Colts PPK jersey.

There were five sectional tournaments held throughout Indiana. The sectional winners with the four best scores were invited to Indianapolis. Winningham learned over the weekend that he was one of those four.

It is the second trip to the finals for Winningham, 14, the starting quarterback this fall for Lawrenceville High School's football team. He also earned a berth in the state finals two years ago.

If Winningham finishes first in Indianapolis, he will qualify to participate in the PPK national finals. Once scores from all 32 NFL teams have been provided to the NFL, the top four will be invited to the finals prior to an NFC playoff game in January.
