Lady Indians back on winning track
LAWRENCEVILLE - Lawrenceville High School's girls basketball team need overtime Monday to snap a three-game losing skid.

The Lady Indians overcame a 7 of 21 showing at the foul line and 28 turnovers, outscoring visiting Robinson 9-4 in overtime to pull off a 52-47 victory.

"It's frustrating, but by the same token, the mistakes we're making are young mistakes. We just need to be able to fix them," said LHS coach Misty Bellville, whose team is now 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the Little Illini Conference. "I was proud of the girls tonight. They played really, really hard."

LHS overcame a 15-12 deficit at the end of the opening period to lead 25-19 at halftime and 36-31 after three quarters.

The Lady Indians maintained the advantage until 1:26 remained, when Courtney Callaway converted a three-point play to tie the game at 43. Neither team scored again during the remainder of regulation play.

The Lady Indians' Morgan Parrish scored two quick baskets in the extra session and Lawrenceville never again trailed.

Parrish and Cailyn Andrews both totaled 18 points to lead LHS. Andrews scored nine points in each half and connected for the Lady Indians' first 3-point basket of the season. Parrish scored 10 points in the opening half and added six in the overtime.

Lawrenceville used its advantage in height to dominate the backboards, 49-34. Brianna Mefford led LHS with 15 rebounds, while Parrish added 13 and Kourtney Osmon 12.

Andrews had five assists for LHS and Mefford added four. Osmon came through with five steals and Andrews had three.

Robinson's Emily Calip led all players with 20 points before fouling out. Kirbie Mendenhall added nine for the Lady Maroons (0-4, 0-4 LIC).

Lawrenceville will travel to Olney for a league game Thursday, and will open play in the Toyota Teamwork Classic Monday with a game at Oakland City Wood Memorial, Ind.
