Tribe rolls to Saturday win
HUTSONVILLE - The Lawrenceville Indians exploded for 28 third-quarter points on their way to an 81-65 win over Hutsonville-Palestine in a Saturday matinee.

With the win the Indians climbed to within one game of .500 at 11-12. Lawrenceville is 8-2 in its last 10 games after beginning the season at 3-10. The Tribe improved to 5-3 in the Little Illini Conference.

The Indians trailed 27-23 late in the first half before an 11-3 run over the final 2:30 allowed them to take a slim 34-30 lead at intermission.

Lawrenceville outscored Hutsonville (5-16, 0-7 LIC) 28-14 in the third quarter, including a 20-7 over a three and a half minute spurt.

"I feel good about the pressure defense in the third quarter. We got some pressure on the ball," LHS coach Randy Bishop said. "We ran some pretty nice sets and got (Brandt) Cochran the ball a little bit more and he hit some shots. I thought we maintained the intensity pretty good until the very end."

Cochran, a sophomore, scored 12 of his game-high 27 points in the third quarter, going 5-for-6 from the field with two 3-pointers. Classmate Harry Loeb chipped in with 20, including seven in the third quarter.

Eight of Loeb's points came on offensive rebounds. The 6-footer paced the Indians with eight rebounds.

Jordan Shick and John Barnes tossed in 11 and 10 to give the Tribe good balance.

Lawrenceville scored the first eight points of the fourth quarter to take its biggest lead of the game, 70-44, with about six minutes left.

After hitting just 10-of-31 shots (32 percent), the Indians hit 17-of-32 second-half shots (53 percent).

Graham Alspach, a 6-2 junior, paced the Tigers with 22 points, despite missing several minutes of the game after a head injury that drew blood forced him to the sidelines.

The Indians will look to even its season mark Friday when they travel to Cumberland for an LIC matchup.

In the junior varsity game, the Indians led 39-6 at halftime en route to a 68-18 win. Dylan Volkman and Dalton Sholders each scored 12 points with Thomas Mahrenholz and Cody Steffey each netting 11.
