High school baseball
Salukis deliver in clutch, claim 4-2 win at Robinson
ROBINSON - It was a successful debut for new Red Hill High School baseball coach Daniel Marsh, but he wasn't there to see it.

The Salukis were solid from start to finish in a 4-2 win over host Robinson Tuesday, but Marsh missed the win due to illness. Instead, assistant Cale Dahm, also in his first season, coached Red Hill to the win.

"We played a great team game and everyone contributed in this victory," Dahm said. "(Jacob) Wirth and (Tanner) Gray did a great job (pitching) and we got just enough run support to earn our first win of the season."

Wirth blanked the Maroons on two hits through the first four innings. He fanned seven Robinson hitters, survived three walks, and was credited with the win.

Dalton Murray pitched 1 1/3 innings in relief for the Dogs and gave up two runs, one of which was earned, on just one hit. He fanned two batters and walked four.

Gray was stellar while pitching the final 1 2/3 innings to earn the save. He retired all five hitters he faced, including one via strikeout.

Gray entered with the bases loaded and one out in the fifth. He got out of the jam with a strikeout and a pop fly.

The Salukis scored twice in the third inning. Steven Ramsaran and Blake Adams both walked, and later crossed the plate. One run scored when Wirth on Ryan Kolb's ground ball.

RHHS stretched the lead to 4-0 with two more runs in the top of the fourth. Trey Aguirre doubled and scored on a base hit by Isiah Cavins. Cavins later came home on Murray's groundout.

Wirth added a double for the Salukis, while Kolb and Gray connected for base hits.

It was an encouraging start for the Salukis, who finished 4-12 a year ago under former coach Michael Wallace.

The Salukis will entertain Mount Camel at 4:30 p.m. Monday at the Tank Farm.
