Salukis' Harper places fourth in both hurdles races at Robinson
ROBINSON - Red Hill High School sophomore Garrett Harper placed in both hurdles races Friday, while junior Connor Holmes was third in the 3,200-meter run, helping the Salukis to finish in the middle of the pack at the Robinson Invitational.

The third-place showing by Holmes was the best by any Lawrence County athlete in the 14-team meet. Fairfield standout Corbin Kakac won the race in 10:37.01, while Mount Carmel's Grady Wilkinson was second in 10:47.88. Holmes finished third in 10:54.02.

Harper was fourth in the 110 high hurdles in 17.45. Later the sophomore returned to place fourth in the 300 intermediate hurdles in 44.38.

The Salukis also placed fourth in the 1,600 relay with the team of Tyler Tewell, Jacob Tabler, Connor Holmes and Lance Holmes in 3:29.26.

Red Hill placed eighth in the team standings with 24 1/2 points. Lawrenceville scored two points and tied Paris for 12th place, ahead of only St. Elmo, which did not score.

Tewell placed in two events to help the Salukis. The senior was fifth in the 400 (53.94) and sixth in the 100 (11.71). Also, sophomore Andrew Tabler cleared the high jump bar at 5-7 to tie for fifth place.

The Salukis scored additional points by placing sixth in two more relays. The 400 relay team of Harper, Jake Allen, Lance Holmes and Tewell finished in 48.03. The, 800 relay team of Harper, Allen, Jacob Tabler and Lance Holmes was clocked in 1:41.35.

Lawrenceville's only point came from a fifth-place finish in the freshman-sophomore 800 relay. The LHS team of Jake Seitzinger, Seth Croslow, Spencer Horner and Kenny Waller completed the race in 1:59.14.

Newton edged the host Maroons, 119 1/2-117, to take team honors. Teutopolis (105), Fairfield (65) and Olney (48) completed the top five. Mount Carmel (44), Altamont (36), Red Hill (24 1/2), Effingham St. Anthony (21), Cisne (20), Palestine (15), Lawrenceville (2), Paris (2) and St. Elmo (0) completed the field.
