Western wins twice at Olney
OLNEY - Red Hill High School sophomore Jamesha Western won both throwing events Saturday, helping the Salukis to a fifth-place finish in the Olney Lady Tiger Relays.

Mattoon won six of 15 events and claimed the team championship with 123 points. Charleston was second with 78 points, followed by host Olney (67), Robinson (45), Red Hill (39) and Lawrenceville (8).

Western had a toss of 35-11 in the shot put and won the event by three feet. Second went to Mattoon's Taylor Weaver with a throw of 32-11. Western's teammate, senior Taylor Heath, threw 27-2 to place sixth.

In the discus Western was also a clear winner, throwing 107-3 1/2. Second was Olney's Mary Grace Inyart, who had a best effort of 100-9.

Red Hill scored third-place finishes in both the sprint medley relay, as well as the 800 medley relay. In the sprint medley race, Olivia Powden started things by running a 400. Shelby Smith and Chey Frederick ran 200-meter legs and Elizabeth Ellingsworth finished with an 800. The Red Hill time was 5:02.9. In the 800 medley relay, Smith and Frederick both ran 100-meter legs, Powden a 200 and Maddy Liberman a 400. The Salukis were clocked in 2:05.5.

Red Hill's 3,200 relay team of Sarah Buchanan, Ellingsworth, Macey Paddick and Liberman placed fourth in 11:25.9. In the 400 relay, the Saluki team of Smith, Frederick, Powden and Liberman ran fifth in 55.28.

Lawrenceville's Jordan Walker had her team's best showing. Walker cleared 4-10 in the high jump to place third. Anna Hartke of Teutopolis cleared 5-1 to win the event, while Charleston's Paige Minor was second at 5-0.

Lawrenceville's other points came from a fifth-place finish in the distance medley in 16:09.02 with the team of Braylee Graman, Annie Bellinger, Walker and Hannah Holmes.
