Red Hill runners handle Mt. Carmel in dual meets
MT. CARMEL - Red Hill High School's track and field teams scored a successful invasion of Wabash County Monday, taking a pair of dual meets from host Mt. Carmel.

Red Hill scored a 67-63 win over the Golden Aces in the boys meet. The Salukis had a much easier time winning the girls encounter, 87-46, which was highlighted by senior Sarah Buchanan setting a school record in the 1,600.

Indians roll to third consecutive victory
LAWRENCEVILLE - Lawrenceville High School's baseball team used a pair of four-run innings on Tuesday to post an 11-1 Little Illini Conference victory over visiting Marshall at Unit 20 Ballpark.

The Indians took control of the game with four runs in the fourth inning, then ended the game via the 10-run rule with four runs in the seventh. It was the third straight win for LHS, which improved to 5-6 overall and evened its league record at 2-2.

LHS baseball, softball teams handle Fairfield
LAWRENCEVILLE - Lawrenceville High School baseball and softball teams were successful on Friday, as both defeated visiting teams from Fairfield.

In the baseball game at Unit 20 Ballpark, LHS senior Harry Loeb tossed a five-hitter as the Tribe downed the Mules, 4-1.

In the softball game at Phil Alsman Memorial Field, LHS senior Morgan Parrish hit a two-run walk-off homer in the bottom of the eighth inning, as the Indians posted a 5-3 victory.

LHS softball team falls to Spartans
LAWRENCEVILLE - Visiting South Knox had only two hits on Wednesday, but took advantage of eight fielding errors in a 7-0 blanking of Lawrenceville High School's softball team at Phil Alsman Memorial Field.

The Spartans (2-3) scored all the runs it would need when it tallied three times in the third inning, and left the rest up to pitcher Katie Keller, who blanked the Indians on three hits.

Salukis split games with South Knox
VINCENNES - Red Hill High School's baseball team entered Saturday's doubleheader with South Knox, Indiana, having suffered four consecutive shutout losses.

Scoring runs wasn't a problem for the Salukis against the Spartans, however, as they crossed the plate 25 times while splitting the two games.

South Knox scored a run in the sixth inning to edge the Salukis in the opening game, 8-7. Red Hill (2-6) snapped a five-game losing streak by blasting South Knox in the second game, 18-6.

LAWRENCEVILLE - Lawrence County Babe Ruth Baseball signups are set for Saturday.

The signups are from 10 a.m. until noon at Parkview Junior High School.

LTC to host free camp at diamond
ROBINSON - The Lincoln Trail College baseball team will host a free clinic on April 16.

The camp begins immediately following the Statesmen's noondoubleheader against Southwestern Illinois. Campers begin with a registration at around 5:15 p.m.and the camp will run until about 7 p.m.

The camp is open to players six to 14 years old. Players will need to bring a glove, bat, cleats, pants, and a hat. Lincoln Trail College will provide water for the camp.

RHHS softball squad drops opener
BRIDGEPORT - Red Hill High School's softball team was finally able to open the season Tuesday, but visiting Oblong spoiled the day.

The Panthers scored four times in the second inning and never looked back, cruising to a 10-1 win at Leigh Ann Westall Memorial Field.

Oblong (4-0) scored runs in five of its seven at-bats.

Oblong rallies late to hand Indians loss
OBLONG - Host Oblong scored twice in each of its final three at-bats Wednesday to hand Lawrenceville High School's baseball team its third loss in as many games.

The Panthers scored the winning run in their 6-5 victory with two out in the bottom of the seventh, when Dawson Maus reached on a two-out error.

Western breaks discus mark, Red Hill boys win
BRIDGEPORT - Red Hill High School senior Jamesha Western broke her own school record in the discus, helping her team to a third-place finish in the opening track meet of the season Monday, while Red Hill's boys teams was first in 12 of 17 events and won a four-team boys meet.

Salukis drop baseball opener
BRIDGEPORT - A trio of Louisville-North Clay pitchers combined to give up just two hits Wednesday, as the Cardinals downed Red Hill High School's baseball team to open the season, 5-2, at the Tank Farm.

The Salukis made no errors in the game, but were unable to overcome 14 strikeouts at the plate.

RHHS baseball postponed, to be played Friday
BRIDGEPORT - Red Hill High School's baseball game at Robinson today has been postponed due to wet grounds according to athletic director Traci Gray.

Gray said the game between the Salukis and Maroons will be made up at 4:30 p.m. Friday.

The Salukis are now scheduled to open their season Wednesday when they host Louisville-North Clay.

Seitzinger hopes to help Falcons in relief
CONCORDIA, Wisc. - Tanner Seitzinger is ready to bring the heat.

A 2012 graduate of Red Hill High School, the left-handed throwing Seitzinger recently went into the 90s on the radar gun, while preparing for his final season at Concordia University Wisconsin. The Falcons are an NCAA Division III program, which plays in the Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference.

Wood Shoes edge Indians to claim sectional
FLORA - An old nemesis reared its head again Friday night, putting an end to what was a most enjoyable era in Lawrenceville High School basketball.

The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes - a traditional stumbling block along the state tournament trail for area teams in all sports - tripped up the Indians, 58-54.

The sixth-rated Wooden Shoes (26-6) will travel to Carbondale on Tuesday for a 7:30 p.m. super-sectional showdown with Breese Central. The fifth-rated Indians saw a nine-game winning streak snapped, as their season came to a close with a 28-3 mark.

Indians, Shoes ready to rumble
LAWRENCEVILLE - Lawrenceville High School's basketball team has been on a collision course with Teutopolis all season.

That collision will finally happen tonight, when the fifth-ranked Indians (28-2) and sixth-rated Wooden Shoes (25-6) meet at 7 p.m., for the Illinois High School Association Class 2A sectional championship. The winner will make the long trek to Carbondale on Tuesday to play either third-rated Breese Central (26-5) or Nashville (21-10) in the super-sectional.

Indians make it back-to-back titles
CASEY - Lawrenceville High School's basketball team prefers to light up the scoreboard, but it doesn't have to do so to win.

The Indians proved that Friday night, pulling away to a 65-51 win over rival Robinson in the championship game of the Illinois High School Association Class 2A regional.

It was the eighth straight win for the Tribe, who improved to 27-2. It snapped a stretch of six straight games in which the team had scored 87 points more, a statistic that's meaningless as the team will travel to Flora Tuesday for a 7 p.m. sectional game against Carterville. Teutopolis and Mount Carmel will play in Wednesday's sectional game, with the championship game set for 7 p.m. Friday.

Little League signups set
LAWRENCEVILLE - Lawrenceville Little League has scheduled two singup dates for later this month.

Signups will be held at Parkview Junior High School from 9 a.m. until noon on Feb. 27 and from 6 until 8 p.m. on Feb 29.

The signups are all players, tee-ball through age 12.

Indians clinch LIC crown, reach century mark again
LAWRENCEVILLE - The Lawrenceville Indians achieved another goal Friday by thrashing the Casey-Westfield Warriors, 101-49.

With the win, the Indians clinched the Little Illini Conference regular season title for the second year in a row. The Tribe is now 22-2 overall and a perfect 8-0 in league.

A win Friday will give Lawrenceville back-to-back undefeated LIC titles. The Indians have now won 29 consecutive games against LIC opponents.

Wrestlers seek success at sectional
LAWRENCEVILLE - Nine Lawrence County high school wrestlers will compete at the Illinois High School Association Class A sectional starting Friday in Carterville, and their coach expects all of them to stay around for a while.

"I think we'll all stay alive for a few rounds," said Sam Hyre, first-year coach of the combined Red Hill-Lawrenceville team that finished second out of eight teams in the regional meet at Mount Carmel on Saturday. "I don't expect anybody to go two and out. I don't think we're a two-and-out kind of team right now."

Balentine sets UE scoring mark
EVANSVILLE, Ind. - A 3-pointer in the second half made University of Evansville senior D.J. Balentine the all-time scoring leader for the Purple Aces as UE topped Missouri State by a final of 83-64 on Saturday afternoon at the Ford Center.

Needing 18 points for the mark, Balentine did just that. All 18 of his points came in the second half and the clincher came with 2:49 remaining in the game as he posted the 2,280th point of his illustrious career.

LHS girls fall a basket short
PARIS - Lawrenceville High School's girls basketball team came up a basket short Thursday, in the final game of the regular season.

Host Paris outscored LHS 8-5 in the fourth quarter and held off the Lady Indians, 31-29. The Lady Indians finished the season with a 19-10 mark and finished 5-4 in the Little Illini Conference. Paris finished 16-10 overall and concluded the conference season with a 7-2 mark, sharing the conference crown with Flora, Marshall and Olney.

Lady Indians handle Oblong, 63-39
OBLONG - Lawrenceville High School's girls basketball team outscored host Oblong in all four quarters on Tuesday and coasted to a 63-39 victory.

The Lady Indians, in improving to 19-9 with their third straight victory, led by scores of 16-12, 30-23 and 48-27 at the quarter stops. Lawrenceville then outscored the Lady Panthers 15-12 in the fourth period.
