Lady Indians post 62-3 victory
MCLEANSBORO - Lawrenceville High School's girls basketball team came within a 3-point basket of posting a shutout Monday, in the opening game of the McLeansboro Thanksgiving Tournament.

Lawrenceville didn't allow a point until the second period, as it improved to 3-0 with a 62-3 win over the Lady Tornados. Seven Lady Indians scored more points than the Zeigler-Royalton team.

BRIDGEPORT - Lawrenceville High School's girls basketball team outscored rival Red Hill in all four quarters on Thursday and pulled away to a 51-30 win in the Red Hill gym.

Lady Indians spread the wealth in victory
LAWRENCEVILLE - Not only did everybody get into the act for Lawrenceville High School's girls basketball team in the season opener Tuesday night, everybody did it early.

"It was neat to see every kids score in the first half," said LHS co-coach Chris Menning, after the Lady Indians destroyed visiting Edwards County, 73-32.

Evansville Purple Aces sign local product Dru Smith
EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Evansville Reitz High School senior Dru Smith has signed his National Letter of Intent to play for the University of Evansville men's basketball team next season.

Head coach Marty Simmons is excited about adding Smith to his squad.

"We love everything about Dru. He is a great student, comes from a great family and is the total package as a basketball player," Simmons said.

Braves take two from Hutsonville
LAWRENCEVILLE - Parkview Junior High School's basketball teams evened their records at 2-2 Tuesday, with easy wins over visiting Hutsonville.

The seventh grade Braves of coach Corey Joergens whipped Hutsonville, 46-26.

PJHS led by scores of 10-2, 20-11 and 36-16 at the quarter stops.

Brayden Sherman scored 17 points to lead Parkview while Hunter Scott hit double digits with 10. Ethan Kelly added nine points, while Damon Zollars and Luke Waggoner both scored four and Drew Wilson added two.

Coach Kyle Shelton's eighth grade Braves blitzed the Tigers, 61-30. PJHS led by scores of 22-8, 37-18 and 53-25 at the quarter stops.

Jarrett Winkles led Parkview with 14 points, followed closely by Jordan Jones with 13. Logan Vaughn added eight points, Eli Ivers seven, Christion Beamon five, Cavan Rich four and Logan Williams, Skyler Tewell, Noah Weger, Caden Daugherty and Blayne Winningham two each.

The Braves will travel to Newton on Thursday.

LHS junior Mefford named to LIC first team
NEWTON - Lawrenceville High School junior Brianna Mefford was one of 12 players chosen to the All-Little Illini Conference volleyball first team by the league's coaches.

Mefford was the top hitter on a Lawrenceville team that finished 9-21.

Two Lawrence County players, LHS senior setter Abby Higginbotham and Red Hill High School senior Kaylee Recco, were named to the team as honorable mention choices.

Purple Aces picked second in MVC preseason poll
ST. LOUIS - Fresh off of a championship in the Tournament, the University of Evansville men's basketball team has been picked to finish second in the Missouri Valley Conference this season.

"This is a great recognition for our program. Being picked that high in such a competitive league is a testament to the guys on the floor," head coach Marty Simmons said. "This gives us a lot of confidence to start the season and we hope to be at the top of the league in March."

PJHS 7th grade girls fall in LEIC semifinals
BRIDGEPORT - Top-seeded Paris Mayo eliminated Parkview Junior High School's seventh grade girls basketball team, 21-14, in the semifinals of the Little Eastern Illinois Conference tournament on Monday.

Mayo led by scores of 7-0, 11-1 and 13-6 at the quarter stops.

Katelyn Higginbotham topped coach Tad Shick's Lady Braves (8-3) with six points in the loss. Alexia Petty added four points and Jayna Carter two, while Sydni Williams and Melody Lockhart both hit free throws.

Lincoln Trail College tipoff set
ROBINSON - Lincoln Trail College's basketball teams will hold their annual tipoff night Nov. 8.

The men's and women's teams will both scrimmage, in an event that begins at 6 p.m.

LTC apparel and accessories will be available and the concession stand will be open.

Popcorn will be free and hot dogs will be $1.

Clay City downs LHS volleyball team
LAWRENCEVILLE - Lawrenceville High School's volleyball team got off to a good start on Tuesday, but was unable to complete the victory against visiting Clay City.

On Senior Night in the LHS gym, the Wolves bounced back for a 20-25, 25-16, 25-20 non-conference victory.

RHHS F-S team downs Indians
LAWRENCEVILLE - Red Hill defeated Lawrenceville in freshman-sophomore football, 20-16, at Ed Loeb Field on Monday.

The Salukis finished the season with a record of 6-1, while Lawrenceville closed the season with a 3-3 mark.

PJHS girls sweep Oblong
LAWRENCEVILLE - Parkview Junior High School's girls basketball teams swept visiting Oblong on Thursday.

Coach Tad Shick's seventh grade Lady Braves improved to 4-1 with a 39-12 win. PJHS led by scores of 10-3, 19-6 and 30-8 at the quarter stops.

Katelyn Higginbotham led PJHS with 12 points, while Jayna Carter added 10. Chaylee Shick netted eight points, while Gracie Winegar scored three. Melody Lockhart, Alexia Petty and Christina Lockhart both scored two.

Coach Jody Cannon's eighth grade Lady Braves improved to 2-3 with a 41-22 victory. PJHS led 9-5 at the end of the opening period, before Oblong forged a tie at halftime, 13-13. Parkview opened a 30-22 lead after three quarters before holding the visitors scoreless in the final stanza.

RHHS senior Breault reaches state golf finals
WEST FRANKFORT - Red Hill High School senior Zach Breault will play against the state's best Class 2A golfers Friday and Saturday, as he advanced from Illinois High School Association sectional competition Tuesday at Franklin County Country Club.

Breault shot a 6-over-par 77, helping Lawrence County's high school golf team to a ninth-place finish in the sectional event.

Breault will play rounds Friday and Saturday at Weibring Golf Club at Illinois State University in Normal.

LHS junior Bobe advances from golf regional
MOUNT CARMEL - Lawrenceville High School junior Madison Bobe reached her goal on Wednesday, as she advanced from the Illinois High School Association Class A golf regional at Mount Carmel City Golf Course.

Bobe, the back-to-back Little Illini Conference individual champion, shot a 29-over-par score of 101 to become one of 10 individuals to advance who were not on an advancing team. The sectional is scheduled for Monday at Crab Orchard Golf Course in Carterville.

Fresh-soph teams claim road victories
Both Lawrence County freshman-sophomore football teams scored shutout victories on Monday.

Red Hill High School's team notched a 27-0 win at Marshall to improve to 5-1 on the season. The Salukis are schedueld to host Casey next week.

Lawrenceville High School's freshman-sophomore football team posted a 34-0 win at Robinson.

County team defends crown, Bobe repeats
OLNEY - Lawrence County's High School golf was the best team in the Little Illini Conference all season long, and on Monday at Richland County Country Club, the team proved it again.

The combined Red Hill-Lawrenceville squad repeated as the LIC champions, winning the league crown for the second straight year with a team score of 345. In addition, Lawrenceville High School junior Madison Bobe repeated as the league's girls champion with a 28-over-par score of 99.

PJHS girls sweep Robinson in openers
ROBINSON - Parkview Junior High School's girls basketball teams opened the season with a sweep of host Robinson on Thursday.

The Lady Braves won the seventh grade game, 32-6.

PJHS led by scores of 6-2, 12-4 and 26-4 at the quarter stops.

Katelynn Higginbotham topped PJHS with 10 points. Chaylee Shick, Alexia Petty and Melody Lockhart added four points apiece while Shayda Noble, Jayna Carter, Christina Lockhart, Alyssa Garza and Abby Frazier all contributed baskets.

Parkview coasted to a 50-9 win in the eighth grade game.

Aubrey Bedwell led the Lady Braves with 10 points. Jayley Akers added eight points, while Becky Wagner, Kaciane Newlin and Alexia Petty all scored six. Tabytha Reid and Jayde Seitzinger both added four points, while Sydni Williams, Chaylee Sick and Melody Lockhart all scored two.

The Lady Braves led by scores of 6-5, 18-5 and 40-9 at the quarter stops.

LHS golf team finishes second in meet at Casey
CASEY - Lawrence County's High School golf team placed second in a three-team meet at Casey Country Club Tuesday.

Mattoon won the competition with a score of 157, while Lawrence County (167) and host Casey (205) also competed.

Red Hill High School senior Tanner Gray topped the combined Red Hill-Lawrenceville squad with a 1-over-par round of 37.

LAWRENCEVILLE - Mount Carmel defeated Lawrence County's high school golf team, 152-169, Tuesday at Lawrence County Country Club.

Red Hill High School seniors Tanner Gray and Zach Breault led the combined Red Hill-Lawrenceville squad with 3-over-par scores of 39.

Salukis split tourney games with Allendale, NCOE
ALLENDALE - Red Hill Junior High School's baseball team split a pair of games Saturday in a round-robin tournament hosted by Allendale.

The Salukis (4-8) opened the day with a 14-4 win over the host Allendale team in a game that was stopped by the 10-run rule after five innings. Later in the day, Norris City-Omaha-Enfield dropped coach Chris Seitzinger's team, 7-2.

County golf team starts week with conquest of Oblong
LAWRENCEVILLE - Lawrence County's high school golf team started a busy week off with a win over Oblong Tuesday at Lawrence County Country Club.

The combined Red Hill-Lawrenceville team had every player shoot 49 or better while posting a 164-200 win over the Panthers.

PJHS holds on for win
LAWRENCEVILLE - Parkview Junior High School's baseball team stretched its winning streak to three games Wednesday with a 5-3 win over Palestine at Unit 20 Ballpark.

Kale Powell pitched four innings to get the win for the Braves (5-6) of coach Jeremy Sanders. Powell gave up three hits and two unearned runs while fanning three batters and walking a pair. Christion Beamon finished up for PJHS and fanned four batters while giving up two hits and walking two.

Jarrett Winkles contributed an inside-the-park homer for the Braves and also singled. Ethan Kelly, Kale Powell and Ryan Schultz added base hits.

The Braves will travel to Cumberland on Monday.

Cross country team hopes numbers add up to success
LAWRENCEVILLE - Numbers are up for Lawrence County's high school cross country team, but will that translate into more success?

"We didn't get everybody to come out that we wanted to," said co-coach Bill Bandy, whose cooperative team - counting boys and girls - features 11 runners from Lawrenceville High School, nine from Red Hill High School and one who is home-schooled. "But any time you have more numbers you have a little more depth. You're a little more competitive and get a little better results."

Braves take out Salukis, 15-5
BRIDGEPORT - Parkview Junior High School's baseball team downed rival Red Hill on Thursday, 15-5.

The game was stopped after five innings, due to the 10-run rule.

Kale Powell pitched the first three innings for the Braves (3-6) of coach Jeremy Sanders. He gave up two hits, walked four and fanned six while allowing two runs. Winkles tossed the final two innings and fanned a pair of batters.
