Meet the Indians is Aug. 22
LAWRENCEVILLE - Lawrenceville High School's "Meet the Indians Night" is set for Aug. 22 at Ed Loeb Field.

To raise funds for the athletic department, a fish dinner will be held, starting at 4:30 p.m. The cost is $8.

The evening will conclude with the football team's annual Red and White scrimmage, slated to begin at 6:45 p.m.

The LHS band, as well as the golf, cross country, volleyball, football and dance teams will be introduced beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Lawrence County squad facing 8-hour road trip
LAWRENCEVILLE - Tuesday and Wednesday will be travel days for Lawrence County Babe Ruth Baseball's 15-year-old all-star team and its fans.
Lawrence County 9-10 Little League all-stars advance to district finals
In Little League district tournament play Thursday night, the Lawrence County 9-10 year old all-star squad defeated Mount Carmel 17-1 in Olney to advance to tonight's 7 p.m. championship against the host club.

In Thursday's game, Dawson Holtz and Ryan Schultz each had three hits with Brenyn Winningham getting two hits. Hayden Hesler, Drevin Sanders and Anthony Jerrell each had a hit. Sanders and Camren Ray were each hit by a pitch twice.

County BR 15s heading to Wisconsin
MATTOON - A long weekend of baseball resulted in the Lawrence County 15 and under Babe Ruth team winning the Southern Illinois Tournament and advancing to the Ohio Valley Region Tournament in Marinette, Wisconsin.

The county squad will take on Ohio at 6 p.m. July 24, then West Virginia at 10:30 a.m. July 25, and then Northern Indiana at 6 p.m. July 25. The single-elimination portion of the 12-team tournament will begin on July 26.

Play in slimmed-down league begins next month
LAWRENCEVILLE - Football teams in the slimmed-down version of the Little Illini Conference will begin banging heads with each other next month.
Red Hill FCA to host 5k
SUMNER - The Red Hill Fellowship of Christian Athletes will host a five-kilometer run Aug. 30 at Red Hills State Park.

Pre-registration is going on through Aug. 18. Forms are available in the office at Red Hill High School.

Those who pre-register will receive a shirt, as well as a color packet.

The fee is $25 for the 5K run and $15 for the family walk for those who register by Aug. 8.

IHSA, assembly to meet
SPRINGFIELD - The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) has learned that a second hearing has been scheduled for the IHSA with the Illinois General Assembly's Elementary & Secondary Education Committee. The committee held its first hearing with the IHSA on May 20, 2014 at the Capitol Building in Springfield.

Albright Motors tops Mt. Carmel team, 15-4
MT. CARMEL - Albright Motors posted a 15-4 win over Wabash General Hospital in Babe Ruth Baseball play on Monday.

Bryce Winningham pitched three innings, fanned five, and earned the victory. Clay Goodwin fanned six in two innings of relief.

Winningham tripled, singled three times and scored five runs for Albright Motors. Chase Shick singled three times and drove in three runs, while Goodwin doubled, singled and drove in three. Ashton Primus singled twice and plated three. Jordan Lockhart and Keegan Meek both singled twice. Cole Sumner and Jonathon Cavins both had run-scoring singles, while Zeus Marsh added a base hit.

10-and-under tourney starts tonight in B-port
BRIDGEPORT - Lawrence County Little League's 10-and-under starts this evening with a pair of games on the diamond in Bridgeport's Lanterman Park.

Action will begin at 5:30 p.m. as Casey State Bank squares off against Gregg Ortho. In the second game, Borowiak's IGA is scheduled to play Lawrence County Ambulance Service.

The six-team tournament will continue Monday, and run through June 27.

In Monday's acdtion, the top-seeded Masonic Lodge team will face the Casey State Bank-Gregg Ortho game at 5:30 p.m. Steffey Funeral Home will play either Borowiak's IGA or Lawrence County Ambulance Service at 7:30.

Three make first-team All-LIC
Three Lawrence County players have been honored for their performance on the diamond this spring with All-Little Illini Conference first-team selections, while six others were named as either second-team or honorable mention choices.
